Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA)


UPDATE OCTOBER 2022: DEAR DACA COMMUNITY: AS YOU MAY HAVE ALREADY HEARD, THE COURTS RULED ON WEDNESDAY THAT THE 2012 PRESIDENTIAL DACA MEMO THAT STARTED THE PROGRAM IS UNLAWFUL. ADDITIONALLY, IT ALSO RULED THAT THOSE WHO CURRENTLY HAVE DACA CAN STILL RENEW. FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO APPLY FOR DACA FOR THE FIRST TIME, IT MEANS THAT USCIS WILL NOT PROCESS YOUR NEW APPLICATION. WE HIGHLY ENCOURAGE FOLKS TO RENEW EARLY IF THEY CAN. BELOW IS A SHORT RECAP PUT TOGETHER BY OUR FRIENDS AT DEPAUL ASYLUM AND IMMIGRATION LAW CLINIC OF WHAT ALL THIS MEANS FOR NOW.


Renewals for existing DACA recipients remain available:

  • If DACA status expires in less than six months, consider renewing now

  • If DACA status expires more than six months, but less than 1 year from now, consider renewing early.

  • If DACA expired under a year ago, USCIS will still process renewal request as a renewal.

  • The filing fee continues to be $495

As a Department of Justice (DOJ) Recognized Organization, Palenque LSNA has two in-office DOJ Accredited staff to help DACA recipients renew. We can help you fill out the application and send it via certified mail for you.

The following documents are required:

  1. Copy of your most recent submitted application (if you have it)

  2. Money order for $495.00 (made out to U.S. Department of Homeland Security)

  3. Copy of your work permit (both sides)

  4. The notice you received from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services when you got approved: Notice of Action I 797

  5. List any changes in trips, addresses, legal issues (arrests, etc.) since you first applied

  6. $50 donation (suggested)
