Tenant Opportunity to Purchase Act (TOPA)

If you are a tenant and your building is getting sold, Palenque LSNA has resources available to help you. If you live within this area, then TOPA applies to you.

Important Timelines

The timeline for TOPA depends on the amount of units that the property has. 

Your landlord is required to notify you before the building is listed for sale, not just when they get an offer. That notice gives you time to start organizing.

Forms from the Department of Housing for Tenants: 

• Tenant Association Registration Form 

  • This form must be submitted to the Department of Housing as a first step in the creation of your tenant association

• Tenant Association Notice Form

  • This form must be given to the owner of the property, along with a copy of the Acknowledgement of Tenant Association Registration signed and dated by Department of Housing staff
